AP&T is currently recruiting for an Entry-Level Central Office/Network Engineer to work in one of our various offices. This is a unique opportunity for a recent graduate to begin a career in telecommunications. This position will work with other Engineers, Technicians, and Customer Service Representatives to support our existing voice and data networks. This position will also participate in the design and deployment of capital projects to enhance or expand our existing product offerings.

A successful candidate will be a self-starter, highly motivated, flexible, detail-oriented, and willing to follow directions. They must be interested in learning and applying new technologies and skills. The candidate must also possess excellent team and interpersonal skills, the ability to work with minimum supervision and possess good customer service skills.

Candidate Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's Degree or CCIE/JNCIE
  • Demonstrated ability to design a project from concept to completion, senior design project or similar.

Additional Skills & Experience Desired

  • BS in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineering, or related technical degree
  • Experience with an ISP/Telco
  • Basic understanding of IP, data networks, AC/DC power, etc.
  • Familiar with FTTH, Wireless Broadband, DSL, etc
  • Knowledgeable of various firewall technologies and their application
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain clear and accurate documentation

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide courteous, responsive service to local site technicians, customer service representatives and customers.
  • Responsible for monitoring and troubleshooting network and transport equipment
  • Responsible for plans, designs, and coordinating complex network improvements and expansions
  • Responsible for maintaining spares inventory, network redundancy and sufficient capacity in transport and access network systems
  • Responsible for working on central office facilities, routers, infrastructure, switches, fiber terminal equipment and related systems
  • Contribute to and assists in maintaining documentation of Central Office Rack Layouts, Network drawings, circuit layouts, equipment configurations, etc.
  • Perform or create a MOP and oversee the performance of software upgrades on a variety of Voice, Data, and DSL equipment.
  • Occasional travel to AP&T sites throughout Alaska, less than 5% travel required.
